Addressing the Frustrations of a Boom Welder
Prior to the advanced simultaneous four seam welding capabilities, each joint was welded separately, which as anyone in the industry 10 years ago would agree, often led to distorted, twisted booms and longer lead times. One solution would be to manufacture the components in shorter chunks that would then be welded together. However, that reduced quality in another way - causing weak spots.
As a company dedicated to providing high-quality products, the potential for defects was a big problem that would require an even bigger solution. Our four seam boom welder was born out of necessity.
Large Weldments Grow Exponentially Larger
Back when a 40-ton boom truck was the largest in the industry, HMMI knew these would soon become standard as the value of large mobile trucks with instant setup capabilities became widely known. Today, it’s common for boom trucks to reach 110 tons, which would be nearly impossible to manufacture without some pretty massive equipment. We knew the best way to produce long booms without distortion would be to attach all four panels simultaneously while providing machining post-weld, and with that, HMMI introduced the Four Seam Boom Welder.
This revolutionary machine reinvented the way we manufactured booms and other large weldments, rapidly producing consistently high-quality welds and slashing production time and labor costs. This was a much more efficient boom welder capable of producing much higher quality. The savings for our customers were immediate.
